I live in Charleston SC and traveled to Columbia SC on Saturday, 10/12/19. At my 1st stop in Columbia my car would not start and I knew that it was not the battery (I had reason to believe that the starter had gone bad). I called AAA to get towed. It took the AAA tow truck approximately 2 1/2 hours to get to me. They towed my car to the Forest Acres AAA service center which was approx. 1 mile away. By the time we got to AAA, they had closed 15 min. prior. Being that the next day was Sunday, I was stuck in Columbia with the hope that they could repair it on Monday. This is not the reason for my bad review...... Thinking that it was the starter in my car that had to be replaced (I drive a 2007 Lexus), I did a little research and found out that it should cost in the $450-$500 range. On Monday after AAA diagnosed my car and told me that it WAS the starter, they quoted me an estimate of $700+, but told me that I could save $50 if I opted for a remanufactured starter (which I did). I told the manager that I had already researched what the cost should be, approx $500 tops, but he offered no help at that point. While my car was being repaired, I called the Lexus of Charleston repair center...who normally services my car...and asked what THEY would charge to replace the starter in my vehicle. They quoted me $529 total....(parts, labor, tax, etc). This was the Lexus dealership!! I then provided the quote to the AAA manager. He said that he could not use it, but he did call the Lexus dealership in Columbia. I don't know what the Columbia dealership told him, but he lowered my AAA bill to $559. My point is......I absolutely feel that AAA tried to take advantage of me. They knew I was from out of town, could not take my car anywhere else because it wouldn't run without the repair, and tried to charge me nearly $200 more than the Lexus dealership would have.

Took them from wednesday to monday for them to stop my car alarm from going off. Had to call them 10 times just to get updates. Then, they overcharged. Sound like nice guys but don’t be fooled. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE

Do not take your vehicle to this AAA car care center. It was recommended by the AAA representative to have my vehicle towed to one of their car care service centers and the towing fee would be waived. Then I was told I would receive a 10% discount off the cost of repairs. So, I assumed this may net me some savings and said ok. Well, I get a call with an estimate of $1,900 to repair the issue and this included my $30 dollar discount. What a minute I said 10% of $1,900 is $190 dollars? The AAA representative told me no sir, it is 10% off the cost of labor only. The repairs included new spark plugs, ignition coils, and plenum gasket for $1,900. This is for a Nissan Maxima by the way and after watching a youtube video it is very similar to open heart surgery to replace these parts. My wife picked the vehicle up and after driving down the road turned around and took it back because it was making a strange noise. The representative assured her it was an exhaust leak and just drive it on home. The following morning she takes it back after having the exhaust issue looked at and the coils installed supposedly failed on 2 and 3 that were just replaced. I have been reassured all the issues will be resolved and it would be safe to drive until the replacement parts arrive later this week. I wish David would have made that recommendation before I payed $1,900 for the repairs and the AAA representative should have informed me the 10% discount was labor only. So, I would suggest the car care specialist tell the customer you can drive your vehicle without the repairs. Also, the 10% discount is on the labor portion only. Very frustrated with the entire process and would advise you to do your homework before paying for any repairs. The only saving grace is they have a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty to repair the repairs for what that is worth?

Alexus is such a friendly, knowledgeable and patient travel agent. She really helped me salvage my birthday week trip, that was going to be ruined by hurricane Florence.
