Good library and well stocked, with lots of fun programs. I am giving it only 3 stars because of how unfriendly the staff and patrons are.I tried my first outing as a mother of 3 (with a 4 year old, 2 year old, and 3 month old) to this library to try to get out of the house. During the whole time the elderly patrons gave me mean glares, “ssshhhhs”, and even covered their ears when my toddler or baby spoke, laughed, or fussed. Hurriedly, I went to checkout as to not disturb the peace any longer. The librarian watched me struggle with the checkout machine holding my newborn, trying to contain my toddler, but offered no help. When my toddler started crying, another librarian scolded that we “need to be quiet in the library”. After struggling for several minutes I decided to finish checking out at the desk for some help. The librarian said, “well- you’re not having a good day”. To which I replied “no”. Tears started to fall then. My toddler then started to have a temper tantrum, and yet another librarian comes up to them and says, “you need to keep your voice down.” Perfect thing to say to a toddler in the midsts of a tantrum. Finally was done checking out and the staff all watched me walk to the door, arms full of books and babies, and struggle to push them open. No help again.Now I realize I probably shouldn’t have attempted to bring my 3 young kids solo to the library, but I feel mistreated and letdown. Shouldn’t a library be a safe space for everyone? Just wish the staff would have had some compassion on this struggling momma.
