Many of my colleagues have embraced the changes that technology has brought about in medicine. Few, however, have been inclined to use technology to market their practice and connect more efficiently with current and prospective patients. This discrepancy is one of the most troubling in modern medicine, as increasing number of patients look to the Internet for information about their doctors and comprehensive health information. Many physicians worry about the misinformation available to patients online, yet they do nothing to refine this information or provide information of their own.My website has been an opportunity to educate my patients, stay connected with them, and find new patients. In thirty years of practice, I have never seen a more effective medium of connecting and attracting patients than my website. Since creating the site one year ago, my patient volume has increased dramatically (~15%). Nearly all of my new patients have found me online, spent time on the site, and feel a unique connection upon coming to see me. The site has been a success for three reasons: (1) Backyard Studios created a unique and pleasing interface for patients to visit; (2) they helped create an easily navigable site map; and (3) they transitioned my design into further marketing media (flyers, brochures, business cards) to accentuate my reinvented practice.There is not question that without Backyard Studios help, our site would have been just another template online. Instead, the team's creativity, spirit, and dedication gave it an energy and vibrancy that has helped attract patients and grow my business.
