Fifty years after my parents’ shoulder-high memorial was placed, it needed help. A gopher hole under one corner of its base had made the stone start to tip. I cannot say enough about the professionalism, initiative, attention to detail and personal kindness of Bryan Kenagy, the owner of Forest Hills Memorials and Stone. Not only did he fill the hole and straighten the stone, on his own initiative he added a slightly longer and wider piece of granite below the monument’s base to provide stability and allow a lawnmower to cut the grass right next to the monument. When I later asked him to replace that base and pad at the same time that he placed a similar family monument nearby so that the marble for both would match, his work was even more impressive. We scheduled the work for the only day I would be in Rockford on a cross-country trip. When I arrived, he and his assistant had already removed my parents’ stone and installed the new pads for both stones exactly as I had requested. Then, as I watched, they placed the new base for my parents’ stone, reinstalled the monument above it, and – to my surprise and delight – cleaned it until it looked new again, and sprinkled grass seed carefully over the fresh dirt that now surrounded it. Despite hours in full sun and July heat, when they placed the second monument, they handled every detail with equal care. Bryan Kenagy and Forest Hills Memorials are simply outstanding.
