There was a gas fire running in the reading room the day I visited. It was a pleasure to sit in front of it to read two of the stocked newspapers. Good place for husbands to wait out the shopping trip of spouses. Proximate to beach and various parking options.

This 1 star review is for the Children's branch of Harrison Memorial Library, which is located next to Vesuvio restaurant. Carmel Children's library is the first children's library, where kids don't seem very welcome. Every time we go there, it seems like we are a bother to the people working in the library (even though the kids behave very properly). After few unpleasant encounters, we stopped going there at all. It's just sad because my kids love to read and we would love to have a nice, friendly local library.

Harrison Memorial Library continues to be one of my favorite libraries for over 45+ years now. There is a comprehensive format of e-books, large print and audio books...oh yes, and did I mention 'real' books? In addition, there is a fantastic DVD collection. Best of all, knowledgeable staff are always on hand for reference and research. Harrison's 'Friends of the Library' regularly present guest authors and speakers which covers every genre. All right here in the magical village of Carmel!
