Client Review on Mt. Airy Bicycle Company
Feedback:
Great shop! Our family bought a used tandem, used road bike and two new recumbents from them over several years, and we will definitely be going back as the kids grow into bigger & better bikes. The owner and staff have decades of experience in the business. They are very knowledgeable about the used bikes they stock, because some of the staff have been servicing these makes & models since they were new on the market 30 years ago. That's not true of many bike shops, and certainly no one around here has the inventory Mt. Airy does. About the customer service experience: the staff are extremely helpful and will provide valuable advice... if you can listen to them without getting huffy that they aren't giving you the VIP treatment you think you deserve. They do care about making sure you find the right bike, right fit, right accessories or whatever you come in for; just don't expect them to focus on you exclusively while you're there. The shop is a very busy environment. Not unfriendly, just busy. It can be frustrating if you are in a hurry, so the best advice for shopping there is, don't be. Along with being knowledgeable, the staff is honest and won't try to upsell you into something more expensive than you need. Twice when I was set on purchasing expensive new bikes from them, they advised me, based on the kind of riding I do, to choose much less expensive, high-quality, used bikes, and I've been really happy with those decisions.(Edit) This is a couple of years after my first review. One of Mt. Airy's selling points is that you can always trade in a bike you buy there on something else in the future. I bought a used Cannondale tandem from them for $3000. When I went to trade it in on a different bike a few years later, they offered me $300. It was in better shape than when i bought it.
