Really disappointing. My family and I booked a meal for my son’s 4th birthday. We arrived at 5.30pm and after waiting 30 minutes for our drinks, we were served our food after 90 minutes!!After an hour waiting for our mains we did have waiting on staff apologise for the wait; we were told that our food would be another 10-15 minutes because “the gas had gone out”, 15 minutes later being told that the food was being “plated up”, however we still waited another 15 minutes after that point. My baby was hungry & I asked for bread. We were given plain sliced white bread, no butter. A kids burger arrived burnt with no sauce or garnish. Adult meals were satisfactory, although overpriced given the circumstances. After our meal, we waited 20 minutes for our bill after we had asked for it, and had to query the drinks prices as the “happy hour” cocktail offer was not reflected in the bill (the deputy manager said that happy hour drinks were for certain drinks only - not indicated on the menu). We did have some money deducted from the bill (£18) due to the very long wait, however it was not enough given the extremely poor service. All in all, a one course meal took 2 hours 15 minutes. No one offered us desserts or drinks after the meal... I had brought a cake in order to sing happy birthday to my little boy, but I took it back. The worst restaurant experience I have had in a long time. The restaurant was pretty empty, and it seemed that staff were more bothered getting ready for the quiz night than serving families already there. I feel so bad that we chose the Viking to celebrate a special family birthday.

Great food and service but seating/table not great. Booked a table in advance for Sunday lunch but was shown to small round table in middle of room when there were plenty of more spacious, cosy corners. Loved the food though!

Well what a let down the worse place on the wirral to eat staff so self oriented who could look the best. how can a restaurant have no cream no decaf coffee deal with dietary needs. Deserts cakes on display with flys on them. Not covered I can't believe a place with such a celebrate name could not be looked at under healthy and hygiene act. I felt so ashamed taking a visitor from outside the area to this place. Also please clean the toilet areas

It’s pricey but the food really is lovely! The guy who served my table was clearly under a lot of pressure and stress and yet absolutely kept his cool, friendly and helpful demeanour - hats off to that guy! Only complaint is the open plan style and the restaurant’s popularity combine to make a pretty noisey environment.

We ordered the steak and ale pies, twenty minutes later they told us that they didn't have any and could we choose something else. After waiting an hour to get our food the fish and chips then didn't have the chunky chips and we were told these had run out too. Then we tried to order to sticky toffee puddings for dessert and was told they only had one. However the food we did get was very nice and they took the price of the desserts off the bill.
